Red Wine Vina Vik A Cabernet Sauvignon 2020. It can benefit from decanting. Located in the Colchagua valley, near Millahue, the Chilean Viña Vik winery is an experiential mix of architecture, design, art, wine and well-being. A luxury winery that opens up a new concept of tourism and hospitality. A holistic vineyard producing world-class wines, on 11,000 acres in the Chilean natural landscape, with 360 degree panoramic views over vineyards, valleys, hills, forests and mountains up to 1000 meters with the majestic profile of the Andes in the background. The vineyards can benefit from a warm Mediterranean climate but with marine influence that limits the maximum temperatures. Soils are of granitic origin, deep, porous, and with good drainage. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Vina Vik A Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautiful ruby red color. The nose shows aromas of red and black fruits, such as raspberries, plums, and blackberries, then notes of fresh spices, along with dried fruit and a slight touch of mocha from the aging in French barrels. It is an elegant wine, with good minerality and a silky sensation on the palate, that’s quite unique. It has a strong structure, with soft and tense tannins, along with balanced acidity and an unforgettable long finish. Try it with game casseroles or slow roast lamb.

Red Wine Vina von Siebenthal Carabantes Syrah 2020. The founder of this winery Mauro von Siebenthal first visited the Aconcagua Valley in the 1990s and soon realised that Chile could be the place where he could achieve his lifelong dream of making wine. He left behind his native Switzerland in 2009 to move here permanently, focusing his attention on founding and developing his own winery and planting the pristine land with Bordeaux and other international varieties. The terroir here is ideal for premium winemaking thanks to the long, hot summer days and alluvial and granitic soils. This refined Syrah is named after Don Franscisco de Carabantes, the Dominican friar who brought the first grapevines to Chile in the 16th century. The grapes for this wine are sourced from 20 year old vines with the young wine aged in oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. Succulent notes of blueberries and cherries immediately burst out of the glass followed by hints of violets, rosemary and baked earth. On the palate there’s a generous full body, smooth tannins and a long finish with lingering touches of spice and vanilla from the oak ageing. Ideal for cellaring for a few more years or enjoying now with flavoursome dishes like barbecued ribs, lasagna, aubergine parmigiana, or hearty stews.

Red Wine Brunelli Recioto Della Valpolicella 2020. Serve lightly chilled. The Brunelli family have lived and worked in the village of San Pietro in the heart of the Valpolicella wine region at least as far back as the 18th century. Originally workers on the estate that now bears their name, over the years the family began to buy small plots on the estate and in 1936 they began making their own wines here. Today young winemaker Alberto Brunelli represents the current generation of the family to take care of the estate along with his parents, Luigi and Luciana. The family’s seductively rich Recioto Della Valpolicella is made according to traditional local winemaking practices whereby the Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes are left to dry in shallow crates in dedicated drying lofts over the winter. This concentrates the sugar content and flavours in the grapes, enabling Alberto to make tiny quantities of this lusciously sweet dessert wine which is then aged in oak barrels for 8 months to add yet more complexity and intensity. The result is a succulent sweet wine with a generous full body and enticing flavours of dark chocolate, figs, ripe plums, and molasses. Thanks to high residual sugar, this is an exceptional partner for chocolate-based desserts, rich fruit cakes, and sticky toffee pudding.
