Red Wine Venge Vineyards Scout’s Honor Proprietary Red 2019. Decant 1 hour before serving. The Venges have been making stunning Napa Valley wines since the 1960s thanks to the passion and vision of Nils Venge who pursued his passion by studying viticulture at UC Davis. In 1976 Nils purchased a 17-acre vineyard in the Oakville District and thus became one of the early Napa Valley pioneers who recognised the remarkable viticultural potential of the region. Nils’ son, Kirk, soon followed in his father’s footsteps and in 2008 he successfully took over the running of the estate from his father. The Scout’s Honor Proprietary Red is made in very limited quantities with prime fruit sourced from multiple top vineyard sites. Crafted as a tribute to the family’s late Labrador Retriever, Scout, the wine is composed of old vine Zinfandel, potent Petite Sirah, Charbono, and Syrah which is grown in steep mountain vineyards. Following vinification the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 14 months. The result is an opulent, intense red which sings with exuberant aromas of crushed dark berries, sweet spices, anise and black truffle. The first sip reveals a firm structure, generous full body, and smooth tannins which give this wine excellent ageing potential. The rich blackberry, cassis and plum flavours and the bold personality of this wine make it a great match for hearty beef dishes like steak or beef bourguignon.

Red Wine Vignobles Mayard Domaine du Pere Pape Chateauneuf du Pape 2019. It is recommended to decant for half an hour. Founded by Gratien Mayard in the 19th century, the Vignoble Mayard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been a family business for 6 generations. The entire estate includes about thirty plots spread over different terroirs. To enhance these very rich terroirs, the Mayard family has decided to devote to organic farming and offers several cuvées in Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône. The Domaine du Pere Pape Chateauneuf du Pape is a wonderful blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. The grapes are sourced from soils of sand and red clay covered with the peculiar Rhone rolled pebbles (locally called ‘galets roulés’). The resulting wine is produced in homage to Gratien Mayard, ancestor of the current producers and founder of the winery. On the nose, the wine shows a beautiful intensity. The aromas of black fruit jam, spices, and cocoa brought by Syrah give this cuvée a great complexity. On the palate, the wine is round and warm and it reveals dense and elegant tannins, with typical peppery notes on the finish. It is already appreciable now, but with a few years in the cellar, it can develop its personality to the fullest. It is a wine made to be paired with a nice piece of meat, a plate with sauce, or a cheese platter!

Red Wine Vini Franchetti Sancaba Pinot Nero 2019. Sancaba Pinot Nero is a creation of Andrea Franchetti, a charismatic and visionary wine producer, owner of the Trinoro estate in Val d’Orcia, and of the Passopisciaro estate on Etna in addition to the Sancaba farm. The Sancaba area is characterized by wild nature, still occupied by large wooded areas and by pedoclimatic characteristics, which make it very suitable for hosting the vineyards of the great Burgundy grape. The Pinot Noir vines are between 5 and 11 years old and are located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level. The climate is particularly cool, with constant winds blowing from the northeast and significant temperature variations between day and night. The soils are composed of calcareous-clayey marl, mixed with friable stones of a schistose nature, very suitable for viticulture aimed at low yields per hectare. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and large barrels. The wine ages for 6 months in second passage barrels and completes the refinement with 14 months in concrete tanks. In the glass, it presents a beautiful bright ruby red color. On the nose, the wine offers aromas of red currant, raspberry, cherry, wild strawberries, floral nuances, and delicate spicy hints. It is an elegant wine, with finely faceted aromas and a velvety tannic structure. The finish is fresh, long, and persistent. Have it with duck or game birds.
