Red Wine Tedeschi Capitel Monte Olmi Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva 2015. Decant 1 hour before serving. The Tedeschi family purchased their first vines in Valpolicella 1630 and over the intervening centuries they have become a benchmark producer of the region’s world-famous Amarone wines. The company that is named after the family was founded in 1824 by Nicolò Tedeschi, although it wasn’t until the 1960s that the estate really blossomed under the visionary leadership of Lorenzo Tedeschi. Lorenzo recognised the exceptional potential of the family vineyards and produced Valpolieclla’s first ever single-vineyard wine from their outstanding Monte Olmi vineyard. Today the estate is run by Antonietta, Sabrina and Riccardo Tedeschi who are justifiably proud of their flagship wine, the Amarone Riserva. This powerful wine is a modern interpretation of Lorenzo’s original Monte Olmi single vineyard bottling. The fruit is sourced from this prime 2.5 hectare vineyard which is planted on red clay and limestone soils on terraces to ensure good drainage and exposure. The wine is made as a complex field blend which features Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, and other indigenous varieties. As is traditional for Amarone, the grapes are left to dry out over the winter and are then slowly macerated and fermented over a 40-60 day period. The young wine is aged in oak casks for 4 years followed by another 12 months after bottling is complete. This lengthy winemaking process creates a rich, darkly-flavoured wine with seductive notes of dried fruits, plums, berries and winter spice from the oak. A great addition to the cellar for extended ageing or to drink now alongside hearty red meat dishes.

Red Wine Tenuta di Arceno Valadorna 2015. It is recommended to decant it for at least an hour. Tenuta di Arceno is located in the heart of the Chianti hills, in central Tuscany, near the village of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Protected from the cold of the north, most of the estate’s vineyards face southeast. Positioned in this way, the vines benefit from exposure to the sun throughout the day, which is particularly favorable to the ripening of the grapes. The Valadorna wine from Tenuta di Arceno is a predominantly Merlot blend coming mainly from the Valadorna and Capraia vineyards, the most suitable ones on the estate for this grape. Both vineyards are located in the coolest part of the property and are characterized by brown sand soil that transmit in an exemplary way the complexity and mineral richness of the terroir. Yields are moderate. This wine shows a soft, savory, and slightly spicy character. The nose reveals bright aromas of ripe black cherries, vanilla beans, and cedar. The lively acidity dominates on the palate but is well balanced by the soft tannins. The palate displays flavors of tart cherry tart, dried red berries, and black licorice, with a long finish of white pepper, and good minerality. Have it with duck or game.

Red Wine Tenute Dettori Dettori 2015. Decant 1 hour before serving. Alessandro Dettori and his father are artisanal winemakers producing just 55,000 bottles per year from their 29 hectare estate in northwestern Sardinia. Their property is one of the most beautiful in Europe, with stunning views from the vineyards looking out over the Mediterranean Sea across to the island of Corsica. Alessandro is passionate about working in harmony with nature, and seeks to always produce wines that are what they are and not what you want them to be”. In practical terms this translates into complete avoidance of chemicals in the growing and winemaking process, fermentation using wild yeasts, and use of recycled and lightweight materials in all their packaging. Produced in tiny quantities each year, Dettori is their flagship red wine crafted from the classic local Cannonau grape. The fruit is harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and then vinified in concrete tanks for 24 months before bottling. The result is a very pure expression of the Cannonau variety with a perfect balance between power and elegance. Intense notes of wild berries, herbs and forest undergrowth mingle with richer notes of plums and ripe cherries on the palate, ending in a long, graceful finish. Keep in the cellar for another decade or so, or enjoy now with hearty red meat dishes.
