Red Wine Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. Decant 2 hours. Deep garnet in colour, this Cabernet Sauvignon is nothing short of exceptional! The nose releases a myriad of aromas including blackcurrant, blueberry, tarragon, dried herbs and coffee. The palate delivers a wide range of different flavours through the complex layers in the wine. Blackcurrant, raspberry, redcurrant and blackberry all mingle fantastically with a hint of chocolate and herbs. The balance of well integrated tannin, acid and alcohol provide a full bodied wine that is a real winner. The finish is long and lingering with a savoury note to end. An excellent match with a joint of beef, venison, game and sausages. The Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from 3 different vineyards: Red Tail Vineyard; Miraval Vineyard and Geyserville Estate Vineyard. All of the vineyards work organically and all provide slightly different nuances in the wines that are produced.

Red Wine Skouras Grand Cuvee Nemea 2017. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in Greece, on the Peloponnesus, Domaine Skouras was founded in 1986 by George Skouras. His first wine was a pioneering blend of the local Agiorgitiko with Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, he has been regarded as one of the most important winemakers in the wine Renaissance of this beautiful country. The company owns several vineyards in Nemea and Argolida and buys grapes from carefully selected local growers. The winery is located just outside Argos and is a beautiful wine tourism destination. The Grand Cuvée Nemea of George Skouras is one of the strongest expressions of Agiorgitiko. Made from 100% Agiorgitiko grapes sourced from 25 years old vines planted on red clay, rich in minerals and located in Corinthia at over 1000m above sea level. The wine is aged in new French barriques for 12 months, 4 of which on fine lees, and then left in the bottle for a further six months. This is a strong, characterful wine with a bright, deep ruby color. On the nose, there’s plenty of red fruits, including blueberries, cherries followed by sweet spices and tobacco. The wine has a great body, balanced acidity and firm but velvety tannins and persistent fruity flavors on the palate. It pairs deliciously with red meat and grilled lamb.

Red Wine Solomnishvili Saperavi 1984 2017. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Solomnishvili winery is the personal project of Georgian winemaker Georgy Solomnishvili, who was also in charge of the Winiveria wines. Here in the small family estate, he treats each of his wines like an artist to a work of art and puts his soul into it. Knowing about his land, soil, climate and grapes allows him to make great wines. His Saperavi 1984 is a striking example of Georgian wine, which combines the ancient technology of Qvevri and the classic technology using an oak barrel. The wine is made with 100% Saperavi Budeshuri grapes from vineyards located at 550 meters. The 35 years old plants benefit from the alluvial soil rich in clay, gravel and limestone. The wine is fermented in the traditional terracotta pots (Qvevri) and then aged in French oak for 18 months. The wine has an intense and deep red color. The nose is inebriating with black cherries, red berries, dark chocolate, tobacco, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is soft, concentrated, elegant and silky, with smooth tannins, and a long spicy aftertaste. It is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but it also has excellent aging potential. Try it with aged cheeses, red meat or wild boar stews.
