Red Wine Roots Run Deep Bound and Determined Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. Unable to get a bank loan, winemaker Mark Albrecht was so determined to create his very own wine label that he sold his house. In 2005 he founded the Roots Run Deep winery in Napa Valley with the help of friends and family who believe in his mission to craft delicious yet ageworthy wines at accessible prices. Albrecht now also sources fruit from Sonoma Coast, Lake County, and Lodi, producing stunning wines that capture the beauty of California’s many varied terroirs. The Bound and Determined series references the philosophy behind Roots Run Deep winery, which became reality thanks to Albrecht’s single-minded drive and commitment to make great wine. This Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in tiny quantities from top vineyard plots in Napa Valley. Classic Napa Cab flavours like opulent cassis, dark cherry, and ripe plums dominate on the nose, while the first sip reveals a generous full body, firm yet ripe tannins and a long spice seasoned with gentle spice, graphite, and woodsmoke. The bold personality makes this a great wine to cellar for a few more years or to enjoy now alongside hearty red meat dishes like a fine steak, fresh parapedelle served with a rich beef ragu, or a generous platter of charcuterie.

Red Wine Roots Run Deep Educated Guess Merlot 2018. Winemaker Mark Albrecht was so determined to set up his own wine label, he took a leap of faith and sold his house to obtain the necessary funds. His wines are inspired by his passion to make delicious yet serious wines at accessible prices, and in 2005 he launched his Educated Guess range with the help of friends and family. In a nod to Mark’s keen interest in both the art and science of winemaking, his bottles have stunning and intriguing label designs featuring chemical equations which outline the fermentation process. On every bottle there is a cryptic roadmap of symbols describing all the factors that go into making the wine inside. This attention to detail is also reflected in Mark’s approach to sourcing grapes which lead him to experiment with a huge variety of terroirs before settling on the fantastic Sangiacamo vineyard on the Sonoma side of Carneros. Like many of Mark’s wines, this stunning Merlot can easily compete with reds double its price tag thanks to his skill and the quality of the fruit he uses. The nose is deeply fragrant with notes of ripe plums, crushed berries and dark cassis, while the palate offers smooth tannins, a full body and a long, spiced finish.

Red Wine Roots Run Deep Hypothesis Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. Decant 1 hour before serving. Inspired by a vision of making ageworthy, serious Napa Valley wines at excellent prices, winemaker Mark Albrecht founded Roots Run Deep in the 2000s. To fund his new project he even sold his house and sought financial support from friends and family who believed in his winemaking talent and passion. Over the past two decades the brand has blossomed, winning over many loyal customers across the United States and beyond for his refreshing take on the Napa Valley. Mark’s Hypothesis Cabernet is made in very small quantities using fruit from one of Napa’s finest vineyards, the Money Road Vineyard in Oakville. He adds a tiny amount of Pritchard Hill Malbec and Merlot to the cuvee and ages the young wine in French oak barrels for 24 months before bottling. Muscular and incredibly concentrated, this is a classic style Napa Cabernet with opulent dark fruit character on the nose along with hints of woodsmoke and spice from the barrel ageing. The full body, firm tannins and well-built structure make it a great contender for extended cellaring, although it can also be enjoyed now paired with hearty meat or game dishes like steak, barbecued ribs, or even venison.
