Red Wine Mordoree La Remise Rouge 2020. No need to decant. Named after the woodcock bird which once flourished all over the southern Rhone Valley, the Mordoree estate was founded in Christophe and Fabrice Delorme in 1986. Today the estate is still in the hands of the family and it has expanded to include 55 hectares of vineyards which give a taste of the region’s many and varied appellations. The estate is certified as organic and also uses biodynamic practices in the vineyard and winery out of respect for the natural environment. The Delorme family’s La Remise Rouge is crafted from Grenache, Merlot, and Marselan grapes which are carefully harvested by hand each year. The grapes are then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and fruity flavour profile of these three varieties. On the nose the wine opens with seductive notes of blackcurrants, dark cherries and ripe plums, while the first sip reveals a silky smooth texture, fine tannins, and rich wild berry flavours accented with hints of licorice, smoky tobacco, and sweet spices. The easy-going nature of this wine makes it an excellent choice to enjoy on its own or alongside simple dishes like pasta served with a beef ragu or a sharing platter of hard cheeses and charcuterie.

Red Wine Renato Ratti Langhe Nebbiolo Ochetti 2020. Decant 1 hours before serving. This sublime Nebbiolo is crafted from top quality fruit from the Ratti family’s prized Ochetti vineyard situated on the opposite side of the Tanaro River from the famed La Morra Barolo cru. Here the sandy soils help to produce an aromatic and refined Nebbiolo which exudes enchanting hints of crushed strawberries, red cherry, rose petals, and sweet spice on the nose. On the palate there is a streak of bright acidity which complements the rich red fruit character, fine tannins, and firm structure. This is a wine which can be cellared for an additional five or so years, but it is also delicious to drink now alongside a classic Italian dish of fresh pasta served with an intense ragu sauce. The Ratti family are true Nebbiolo experts and have been working this land since the 1960s when Renato Ratti returned home from working in Brazil to pursue his dream of making his own wine. He purchased his first vineyard close to the Abbey of L’Annunziata in La Morra and became a pioneer in the Barolo region, making one of the area’s first single vineyard wines and creating detailed maps of Barolo’s historical crus. Today the estate is in the capable hands of Renato’s son, Pietro.
