Red Wine Marani Akhasheni 2020. Marani are based at the Telavi Wine Cellar in the historic wine-making region of Kakheti and have been providing high-quality Georgian wines to the rest of the world for over a century. The company mixes innovation with a deep respect for history, often employing traditional Kakheti methods in the process of creating their delectable wines. The Alazani River Valley makes for picturesque surroundings, but also provides an enormous breadth and variety of grapes. Various micro-zones dot the landscape, each with a particular speciality. On the north-facing bank of the Alazani, Saperavi is grown on alluvial soil for the sole purpose of creating delicious, deep crimson Akhasheni. Exploding with a rich bouquet of blackberry, blueberry jam, dark cherries, and licorice, this semi-sweet red is extremely enjoyable to drink. Fruits are plucked by hand at the height of their ripeness, before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. Dominant fruity flavours of cassis, cherry, and plum make for a rich, satisfying mouthfeel. The finish is long and velvety smooth, with a sweet, well-balanced aftertaste. Can be enjoyed alone easily, or as a digestif. Pairs well with desserts, such as chocolate cakes and fruit tarts.

Red Wine Mauro Molino Langhe Nebbiolo 2020. Often regarded as Barolo’s little brother, Langhe offers a more approachable, softer expression of the noble Nebbiolo grape which is revered throughout the Piedmont region. Mauro Molino makes this wine in a young, fresh style to showcase the beauty and intricate complexities of the Nebbiolo grape. After harvesting the grapes by hand on his family’s estate, Mauro macerates the grape must with the skins for 5 days and then ferments it in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This subtle, considered approach to winemaking brings to the fore intoxicating aromas of bright red cherries, dried herbs and the charming hints of roses and violets that are so typical of the Nebbiolo grape. The first sip offers plum, tart cherry and dried fruit flavours along with fresh acidity, gentle tannins and a smooth mouthfeel. Mauro’s approachable Langhe Nebbiolo is perfect to drink now and will continue to improve over the next couple of years as the flavours and aromas become even better integrated. Try serving this easygoing bottle alongside a tomato-based or creamy fresh pasta dish or combine it with a generous platter of cheeses and charcuterie for a fuss-free weeknight dinner.

Red Wine Mildiani Kindzmarauli 2020. The Mildiani family winery, founded in 1991, covers an area of about 100 hectares of vineyards, mainly located in the fertile micro-area of Tsinandali, a wine region widely known as one of the best in all of Georgia. The company has won numerous awards internationally for its wines and has enjoyed success in various markets locally and globally. Their production focuses on high-quality wines from local grape varieties produced using the most modern technologies. The Mildiani Kindzmarauli is a semi-sweet red wine made with carefully selected 100% Saperavi grapes sourced in the Republic of Georgia’s Kindzmarauli wine appellation. This wine is characterized by a deep red color and aromas of red fruit and ripe undergrowth (blackberry, cherry, raspberry, and strawberry) accompanied by vegetable notes. On the palate, the wine is lively and energetic with young and slightly rough tannins that are perfectly balanced by the natural sweetness of the wine. Served at 12-14 ° C, it goes perfectly with beef curry, sweet and sour pork, or with red meat served with red fruit sauces and not too aged cheeses. It works well also with dark chocolate and caramel desserts.
