Red Wine Laughing Stock Vineyards Blind Trust Red 2018. Founded by David and Cynthia Enns who left high-flying jobs in finance to pursue a love for winemaking, Laughing Stock Vineyards was founded in 2003 on the Naramata Bench in the Okanagan Valley. The winery takes its name from the reaction of some of their former colleagues and acquaintances when the couple decided to quit their stable careers for the uncertainties of the winemaking industry. David began crafting small batch wines from top quality Washington State grapes in 2001 and learned the ropes by apprenticing with some of Okanagan’s leading winemakers. Over the last couple of decades David and Cynthia have built a solid reputation for award-winning wines which are highly-sought after in British Columbia and beyond. Their Blind Trust cuvee is a rich and powerful Bordeaux-style blend featuring Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and a dash of Petit Verdot. In the finance world the executors of a blind trust have full control over the assets included. In the same way, the Enns have created this wine using the finest of ingredients and 15 months of maturation in French oak barrels. The result is a complex and sophisticated blend which can be enjoyed now alongside hearty red meat dishes or held for another 8 years or so in the cellar.

Red Wine La Valentina Spelt Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2018. It is recommended to decant it an hour before serving. Established in 1990, after years of experimentation on the Santa Teresa di Spoltore vineyard, La Valentina winery has decided to focus on the enhancement of traditional regional vines: Montepulciano and Trebbiano. With the renovation of the old cellar, completed in 2008, the company can take advantage of spaces managed optimally, separating the various stages of vinification and aging with those of refinement and storage of wines. The vineyards spread through the hills around the Pescara valley and its tributaries, on medium-textured clay soils at different altitudes: about 150 meters near Spoltore near the sea and 400 meters in Scafa under the Maiella. The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes come from vineyards of Spoltore, San Valentino and Scafa. Here the vines have an age of 10-42 years and are planted on Medium-textured clayey soil at an Altitude 150-400 meters above sea level, South / South-West exposure. The wine has a red color with garnet reflections. Among the aromas of sour cherry syrup, licorice, plum jam, and tea leaves, there are notes of cinchona and peat. On the palate, it shows great vitality, with lively but velvety tannins. Despite its powerful character, it is smooth and round, vigorous and snappy. The taste is harmonious and well-calibrated by alcoholic heat, with long and tasty persistence. Have it with pasta Bolognese or red meat stews.
