Red Wine Clos Pegase Mitsuko’s Vineyard Merlot 2018. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Clos Pegase is an impressive wine estate in the Napa Valley APA, with panoramic views of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The main building of the winery is a piece of innovative architecture, designed by Michael Graves in 1987 and is one of California’s premier wine destinations. Clos Pegase creates wines from purely estate-owned vineyards, allowing for greater control and an extremely high level of quality in the final product. The estate’s largest grape-growing site is Mitsuko’s Vineyard, 365 acres in all, making up the majority of vineyard land in the Los Carneros appellation. Mitsuko’s Vineyard is the origin of this potent, deep purple Merlot. The fruits were grown in a section of the vineyard with Haire clay-loam soil, uncannily similar to the soil on the right bank of Bordeaux. The resulting wine is a deep well of dark fruit aromas, including plum, cassis and blackberry. It is juicy on the palate, full-bodied and alive with fresh acidity. Giving it some time to breathe, it rewards you with further herbal notes, bay leaf, cedar and clove. The tannins are smooth and propel the satisfying finish. This Merlot will complement roasted vegetables with herbs, roast beef, or a strong, creamy cheese.

Red Wine Condado de Haza 20 Aldeas 2018. It is recommended to decant 1 hour before serving. Condado de Haza is the second estate, in the Ribera del Duero, of the Fernandez Rivera family, owners of Tinto Pesquera. Currently, the property has an extension of about 200 hectares planted with Tempranillo vineyards, on the banks of the Duero river. The vineyards that have been cultivated since 1987, are located within the limits of the municipality of Roa, at 811 meters above sea level, on soils of sand and loam. 20 Aldeas is the latest addition to Bodega Condado de Haza, a 100% organic Tempranillo monovarietal produced and aged in American oak barrels. The grapes come from plants with an age of about 30 years, located in the municipality of Roa and La Horra, at an altitude of over 800 meters. The wine has a cherry color with purple reflections. Its aromatic profile is intense and complex, with notes of black fruit, and a touch of licorice typical of the Tempranillo variety, followed by toasted notes such as vanilla, coffee caramel, and smoky hints from aging in American oak barrels. It is a powerful and full wine with a remarkable balance between round tannins and acidity. The persistence in the mouth is long and pleasant with notes of coffee, licorice, and caramel. Have it with lamb or grilled red meat.

Red Wine Cordero di Montezemolo Barbera d ́Alba 2018. Cordero di Montezemolo can trace its history back 19 generations to 1340 and remains family-run to this day. Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children Elena and Alberto head up the estate today, overseeing some 51 hectares of top vineyards in Barolo and nearby Roero. The winery is based in Monfalletto close to the stunning hilltop town of La Morra which is considered one of Barolo’s finest crus. The family’s vibrant Barbera d’Asti is made in a classic style from top quality sourced from their estate vineyards in Lamorrese and Roero. The plots occupy a range of altitudes and soil types which helps to add complexity to the finished wine. The grapes are typically harvested in late September at optimal maturity and are fermented in stainless steel tanks. Maturation then takes place in French and Slavonian oak casks for 7-8 months before bottling. Soft red cherry and hints of spice and cacao define the nose while the palate offers a bright acidity, medium body and smooth tannins. The bold fruit flavours linger on the tongue, ending in a clean, pure finish. The vibrant flavour profile makes this a great match for charcuterie, creamy cheeses, or tomato-based fresh pasta dishes.
