Red Wine Baigorri De Garage Rioja 2017. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Bodega Baigorri is located in Rioja Alavesa, the northernmost part of the Rioja wine region, about 600 meters above sea level. The Rioja vineyard is one of the largest in Europe and benefits from a peculiar climate influenced by the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, which, by providing mild temperatures and sufficient rainfall, create ideal conditions for viticulture. The great majority of the red wines are obtained from Tempranillo, Grenache, Mazuelo, and Graciano grapes grown on these clayey-calcareous soils. White wines are made from Macabeu or Malvasia. The grapes come from over 60-year-old vines planted on clayey-calcareous, stony, and very poor soil in several micro-lots of less than one hectare located in the Samaniego region, in Rioja Alavesa. All the vineyards are worked according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with manual work. In the glass, the wine shows an impenetrable purple color and a ruby-colored nail. The nose reveals complex and fascinating aromas of blackberries with subtle floral notes of dried lavender and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is intense, warm, and powerful yet endowed with enormous finesse and elegance. The tannins are perfectly ripe and the lively acidity balances the juicy fruit flavors. Perfect with grilled and roast red meat and game stews.

Red Wine Baigorri Garnacha 2017. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in Rioja Alavesa, Bodega Baigorri stands out for the impressive architecture of its cellar. Aesthetic and functional, the Bodega is the work of the architect Iñaki Aspiazu. The panoramic windows covering an area of 400 m2 offer an incredible view but the functional peculiarity of the cellar concerns the winemaking process. All handling of grapes or wine, from transporting the harvested grapes to the cellar on the upper floor, to storing the wines on the lower floor of the Bodega, takes place exclusively by gravity. The grapes are therefore not damaged by the pumps and keep their initial flavor intact. Garnacha has a long tradition in Spain, but in Rioja it is very rarely vinified in purity, as in this case. The grapes for this wine are sourced from around 35-year-old vines from the sunniest vineyards of Bodegas Baigorri. The wine shows a very deep purple color. The nose is fragrant with aromas of red and black berries, juicy stone fruit, toasted almonds, cooked pear, and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, the concentrated power is in perfect balance with the pleasant sweetness, the typical warmth of Garnacha, and the good freshness. The finish is prolonged and elegant. A must with roast lamb.

Red Wine Mauro Molino Barolo Bricco Luciani 2017. Decant 2 hours before serving. Occupying an idyllic setting near the enchanting hilltop town of La Morra, the Mauro Molino estate dates back to 1953 when the winery was founded by Mauro’s father. These days it is Mauro who heads up the estate along with his two children, Matteo and Martina, who both graduated from enology school and decided to join the family business. In total the Molino family have 12 hectares of land in and around La Morra which are largely planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. The Bricco Luciani Barolo has a special place in the Molino family’s hearts since the grapes are sourced from the vineyard right in front of the family home where Mauro and later his children used to play. The grapes are typically harvested in October at optimum maturity and then macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to French oak barrels for 18 months of ageing. Unlike many Barolos which can require years of maturation before they become approachable, the Bricco Luciani is a softer, more elegant expression of the Nebbiolo grape which is exceptionally pleasant to drink even when young. The nose offers a complex mosaic of dark berries, truffles, and aromatic forest floor aromas, while the first sip reveals fine tannins, a firm structure, and plenty of balancing acidity.
