Red Wine Sleight Of Hand Cellars The Psychedelic Syrah 2019. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Widely regarded as one of Washington State’s coolest, up-and-coming wineries, Sleight of Hand Cellars was founded in 2007 and is based in Walla Walla. Its founders are passionate about music and in fact, the name of the winery is inspired by a song by Seattle band Pearl Jam, and their tasting rooms are full of records. Their beautiful labels are all reminiscent of vintage magic show posters from the 1920s and 1930s. The Psychedelic by Sleight of Hand is a sensational red wine made from Syrah grapes, coming from the Stoney Vine estate vineyard. The grapes have been foot-crashed, and the wine was then aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. The wine’s aromatic profile is incredibly intense, with scents of blackberries, forest berries, violets, olives, coffee, dark chocolate, and some final notes of smoke. On the palate, the wine is complex and full of character, spicy and robust, with mouth-coating tannins and delicious flavors of blackberry, leather, pepper, licorice, and wild herbs. It closes with a long, persistent finish. It is the perfect BBQ wine but works well also with roast meat and game birds.

Red Wine Soellner Berg Eisenhut Roter Veltliner 2019. This small Austrian estate located on the rolling hills of Wagram overlooking the Danube river valley is run by Dani and Toni Soellner who have made their exquisite biodynamic wines here since 1995. They farm their vineyards organically and seek to showcase the beauty of the local terroir by using minimal intervention winemaking methods. This characterful red wine is made from the Roter Veltliner grape which was brought to Alsace in the Roman era. The Soellners decided to plant this variety on their estate on the steep slopes of Berg Eisenhut where the grapes for this wine are sourced. Each autumn the family hand selects and picks only the finest fruit for this wine which is then fermented slowly in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is aged in a mixture of wooden barrels and tanks on the lees before bottling in the spring. The nose is elegant and floral with hints of dried violets, dark berries, and earthy undertones. On the palate there’s a medium body, fine tannins and ripe fruit flavours which linger on the tongue along with spice, woodsmoke and tobacco leaf. A great wine to pair with a wide variety of dishes ranging from game and meat stews to moussaka, aubergine parmigiana, or a tomato-based pasta dish.

Red Wine Sokol Blosser Evolution Pinot Noir 2019. It was 1970 when Bill and Susan Sokol Blosser pulled up in their VW Campervan to an abandoned prune orchard where they would later plant their very first vines. Despite having limited winemaking experience, the couple had a vision to craft world-class Pinot Noir in the Dundee Hills which is now the heart of Oregon’s booming wine industry. Today the estate is run by the second generation of the family, siblings Alison and Alex, who prioritize sustainable farming practices. In 2015 the winery was certified as a B Corp and the siblings farm all of their 88 acres of vineyards organically. Their Evolution Pinot Noir is designed to offer exceptional value for money and is crafted from top quality fruit from the Willamette Valley. The vines are planted on prized volcanic soils and are carefully harvested by hand to ensure only the best fruit makes it into the bottle. After vinification the young wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 months followed by another year in the bottle. The result is an elegant and balanced Pinot that’s bursting with hints of pomegranate, black cherry, and hints of sweet spice.
