Red Wine Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2019. The Seghesio family began making wine in California in 1895 when Edoardo Seghesio planted Zinfandel vines in Alexander Valley. Over the intervening years the third generation of the family, Pete Seghesio and his cousin Ted Seghesio, established the estate as a top producer of Californian Zinfandel. Today the winery has 120 hectares of vineyards which are all farmed sustainably in the appellations of Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley. The vines for this bottling come from estate vineyards in Dry Creek and Alexander Valley with careful management of yields to ensure excellent quality. The grapes are fermented in open and closed tanks and then aged in 70% American and 30% French oak barrels for 9 months. On the nose there are powerful notes of crushed cherries, cassis and blackberry as well as hints of licorice, cigar box spice and woodsmoke. The first sip reveals a generous full body, smooth texture and ripe tannins with ample dark fruit flavours which linger long on the tongue. The robust flavour profile makes this a great partner for barbecued meats and steak, although it can also be kept in the cellar for another few years.

Red Wine Sheridan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. It is recommended to decant it for at least half an hour. Situated on a hill overlooking the Yakima Valley, just outside the town of Zillah, in Washington state, Sheridan Vineyard produces some of the state’s most interesting red wines. The company was founded in the late 1990s by Scott Greer and his business partners Pat and Lanie Dineen, and now the vineyards extend over 100 acres planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah. Their first harvest dates back to 2000 and, since then, they have earned an excellent reputation for their fine wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Sheridan Vineyard is made from grapes sourced within Yakima Valley AVA. It is a rich and powerful red wine. In the glass, it shows a deep color with purple hues. The nose reveals intense aromas of dark fruit, especially plum, blackberry and blueberry, and floral notes of lavender and violet. On the palate, it shows a strong character and a robust body with a good balance between lively acidity, soft tannins, and a good concentration of dark fruit. The finish is long and pleasantly warm. Perfect with beef, it is the ideal wine for a barbecue but also goes well with game.

Red Wine Sheridan Vineyard Mystique 2019. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. It was 1996 when Scott Greer decided to give up his career in finance and buy 76 acres of land located on a hill in the Yakima Valley to make wine. His first harvest dates back to 2000 when he produced the first bottle of L’Orage wine. Today, the property continues to focus on sustainable agricultural practices and keeps yields low to produce rich, highly concentrated, and elegant wines. The Mystique from Sheridan Vineyards is a fantastic Bordeaux blend with a prevalence of Merlot that offers exceptional value for money. The wine is rich and sensual with aromas of soft black fruits such as dark cherry and blueberry, deliciously spicy and herbaceous notes, and a slight touch of cocoa. In the mouth, it is soft and round, elegant, and easy to approach. The finish is complex, refined, and prolonged. This is a wine that has a great aging potential and can develop brilliantly with some time in the cellar. If you can’t wait to open it, try it with lamb chops or with a beef stew. It can also match well with rich vegetarian recipes with aubergines or mushrooms.
