Red Wine Matetic Corralillo Pinot Noir 2016. The Matetic family moved from Croatia to Punta Arenas in Chile’s southern tip in 1892 and began sheep and dairy farming in the region. In 1999 the family made the move into winemaking and after studying the local terroir extensively they decided to plant their vines in the Rosario Valley just 15km from the Pacific Ocean. Conditions here are ideal for premium winemaking thanks to the hot, sunny days, cool nights and breezes from the ocean which help moderate temperatures during the summer. This wine is part of their Corralillo range which takes its name from an old wine cellar in the Rosario Valley. Fruit is sourced from Maipo near Santiago, Colchagua and San Antonio and the vineyards are managed according to biodynamic principles to produce the best quality grapes possible. Following vinification the young wine is aged in French oak barrels for 11 months. On the nose there are enticing notes of red berries, dried herbs and spice while the first sip reveals an elegant structure, light body and fine tannins. The vibrant, fruit-forward character of this Pinot makes it a great choice to pair with duck, tomato-based pasta dishes, or a generous platter of cheeses and charcuterie.

Red Wine Matetic Corralillo Pinot Noir 2016
Red Wine Matetic EQ Pinot Noir 2016. This classic New World-style Pinot Noir is the work of the Matetic family who emigrated to Chile from the Croatian coast in 1892. After many years working on their successful sheep farm in Punta Arenas, in 1999 they decided to start making wine in the El Rosario Valley in San Antonio just 15km from the Pacific Ocean. The grapes for this bottling are sourced from estate vineyards in the valley which are planted on excellent granitic soils and are farmed according to biodynamic principles in harmony with Mother Nature. Most of the time the vines are dry farmed which gives low yields of very concentrated fruit. In the winery the grapes are fermented using wild yeasts and the young wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18-20 months prior to bottling. The flavour profile is bold and fruit-forward with ample cassis, blackberry and cherry notes along with hints of violets, baking spice and forest floor. The first sip reveals a light body, vibrant acidity and intense flavours which linger long on the tongue. A great wine to drink with duck, game or roasted lamb cooked with herbs.

Red Wine Matetic KanKan Syrah 2016. The Matetic family left their home on the Croatian coast and emigrated to Chile in 1892, settling in the remote Patagonian town of Punta Arenas where they founded a sheep farm. In 1999 the youngest generation of the family decided to start making wine in the valleys of Casablanca and San Antonio, just 15km from the Pacific Ocean. Conditions here are ideal for premium winemaking thanks to the long, sunny summer days which are moderated by regular cool breezes from the ocean. The family’s winery was the first to be founded in the San Antonio appellation, and also one of the first wineries in all of Chile to embrace organic and biodynamic winemaking methods. This juicy and fruit-forward Syrah is crafted from top quality fruit sourced from a single vineyard on the estate. Once in the winery the fruit is vinified in temperature-controlled tanks and then transferred to French oak barrels for 14 months of maturation. Bursting with deep, ripe berry notes of cassis and blackberry as well as ripe cherries and spicy black peppercorns, this is a rich and powerful Syrah that’s ideal for pairing with hearty red meat dishes. Drink now with steak, beef cheek stews, barbecued ribs, or even a rich wild boar ragu served with fresh pappardelle pasta.
