Red Wine Marani Kondoli Vineyards Saperavi 2018. Enjoy immediately or decant for up to an hour. Marani’s headquarters can be found deep in the belly of Georgia’s historic wine-making region, Kakheti, in the stunning Alazani River Valley. Marani have been producing the highest quality Georgian wine for over a century, combining innovation with a deep respect for Georgia’s ancient wine-making culture. The Saperavi is Georgia’s flagship grape – originating from the Kakheti region, it has now spread to other Eastern European regions and as far away as Australia. It is robust and powerful, perfect for long-term cellaring. The Saperavi that provided this red wine were grown on the finest tracts of Marani’s Kondoli vineyard, among a variety of other gorgeous native Georgian grapes. An intoxicating mixture of black fruits and spice emerges on the nose of this dry red, with notes of licorice and tobacco. This wine won gold at Mundusvini 2020, and it is easy to see why. Bold, sweet fruit flavours mingle seamlessly on the palate with soft tannins and notes of dark cherry and cassis. Enjoy now, or hold for a few years.

Red Wine Mario Giribaldi Conca d’Oro Nebbiolo d’Alba 2018. The Giribaldi family have been working this land for four generations, ever since the family winery was founded in 1886 by their ancestor Giovanni Giribaldi. Today there are ten family members currently involved in running the business, helping to farm 30 hectares of vines scattered across the most prized sub-regions in the Langhe region. Sustainability and harmony with the natural environment are very important to the family, which is why their vineyards have been certified as organic since 2004. The fruit for this stunning red come from the family’s 1.68 hectare Conca d’Oro” vineyard which is set on hilly terrain at 380 metres above sea level. The south-facing vineyard enjoys plenty of summer sunshine as well as well-draining stony calcareous soils which bring a bright streak of minerality to the wines made from these vines. The Nebbiolo vines are harvested at optimum ripeness and then vinified in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to oak barrels for a period of ageing. Prior to release the wine is allowed to rest in the bottle for another 5 months, creating a vibrant yet well-balanced Nebbiolo that is bursting with luscious dark berries and sweet spice on a backbone of firm tannins and a well-developed structure.

Red Wine Matetic Corralillo Winemaker’s Blend 2018. In 1892 the Matetic family left behind their Croatian homeland and emigrated to Chile’s southernmost corner, Punta Arenas, where they established a successful sheep farm. Several generations later, the family realised Chile’s exceptional potential for making top quality wine and they began to study the terroir. Matetic winery was founded in 1999 in El Rosario Valley just 15km from the Pacific Ocean. This iconic bottle is part of their Corralillo series which was inspired by a historic wine cellar in the Rosario Valley where everyday wines used to be made by local families from the indigenous Pais grape. Today the Matetics are carrying on this legacy with a modern twist by working with top international varieties to craft top quality red and white wines. Their Winemaker’s Blend is primarily composed of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, as well as a drop of Petit Verdot. Grapes are sourced from old vines planted on the slopes of El Rosario where conditions are ideal for quality winemaking thanks to the good drainage, granitic soils and low yields. The family cultivate their vineyards according to biodynamic principles and in the winery the different varieties are vinified separately and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before blending and bottling. Punchy cassis, plum and cherry define the nose while the first sip reveals a hearty full body, smooth tannins and powerful structure that will age beautifully.
