Red Wine Hedges Family Descendants Liegeois Dupont Syrah 2017. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Founded as Hedges Cellars by Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges, Hedges Family Estate is still today a family business considered among the most important in the state of Washington and AVA Red Mountain. Today Anne-Marie and Tom’s daughter Sarah is the chief winemaker and their son Christophe is the general manager. Agricultural practices have become organic. The 100% Syrah grapes come from the Les Gosses vineyard, located in the small but famous Red Mountain AVA, planted with the clones of Joseph Phelps and Tablas Creek. The wine is aged in new barrels for 19 months. This elegant Syrah from the Red Mountain wine area has classic aromas of red fruits and blueberries, spicy notes of black pepper and cumin seeds, sweet hints of vanilla shortcrust pastry, and dark cocoa. In the mouth, the sweet and spicy fruity notes return with intensity and you will have a nice vivacity with a soft and silky finish. It is a wine with full body and a strong but also very persuasive character. Try it with a succulent steak, a spicy roasted lamb, or some roasted Portobello mushrooms.

Red Wine Honig Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. Decanting time: Ideally, at least an hour. Dark, deep and rich in colour. An elegant, full bouquet of black stone fruits, eucalyptus and spice-enriched minerality and as the nose continues to open, delicate hints of earthy wood and red fruits begin to emerge. This full-bodied wine is firm, bold and ripe and demonstrates great intensity and depth which will be enhanced even further over time. Smooth, soft expressions of dark chocolate and cassis on the palate invite a relaxed, subtle enjoyment of the consistent, structured flavours, underscored with delightful expressions of plum, cherry and red berries. Hints of vanilla and toasted oak present themselves mid-palate for a delicately lush, harmonious delivery that begs revisiting over and over again. A warm yet subtle finish leaves pure enjoyment in the mouth, with lingering, uplifted expressions of fruitiness. This wine will be remembered as a lively, if understated, portrait of the best that Napa delivers when it comes to Cabernet Sauvignon. An exceptionally strong year that can be difficult to source. The blending of this predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon varietal with the Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc offer an uplifting, harmonious effect and although there is a clear nod to the classic Napa Cabernet tradition, there is also a certain, gentler feminine effect than the typically big and bold Cabernets from Napa Valley. This wine pairs exceptionally well with grilled, rich meats and hard cheeses. If possible, decant for as many hours as you have, although drinking it upon opening will not deliver a distinctly inferior experience. Enjoy now or hold for the next decade.
